Mikaila is a graduate of the Master of Community Planning program at Vancouver Island University. Her desire to implement change at a community level drew her to the field of planning, where she is committed to helping communities become more equitable and healthier.

She developed skills in social planning and community engagement through her work in the non-proft world, which has ranged from advocacy in educational settings to community-based research. Mikaila has worked as a planner to support local governments and organizations with policy development, community and neighbourhood plans, assessment tools, technical planning analysis and engagement strategies.
